I am hosting a form/panel discussion on this topic in May at the public High School in Watertown, NY. We'll have myself, the assistant principal, and reps from the synagogue and Islamic Foundation on the board, as well as a rep from the local parochial school.
Should I hire bouncers?
At least alert Jerry Springer so he can catch the fireworks on tape. If you made sure that the synagogue rep was related somehow to the assistant principal and brought out their long lost brother Joseph, that would help as well.
Is the main gist of the deal debating whether or how the Bible should get used in public schools.
The gist is in formation; It's a zygote gist. But it looks like it will be "if, and if so, how?" The school is very supportive of the idea, and the Christian, Jewish, and Muslim representatives are all very open-minded and civl about things. We expect it will dovetail into a discussion about interfaith relationships as well. But you never know who will be in attendence, and how they will react when the details start coming up.
